I’d love to set up a learning experience for you or your organization. I can teach a single workshop or a series of classes, depending on your needs and interests. Depending on your preferences, we can work inside or outside, or a little of both.
Here are a few of my more popular workshops:
Nature Writing: Explore the Terrain
In this two-hour workshop, we will use Barry Lopez’ book Home Ground: Language for an American Landscape to explore the genre. We’ll seek answers to the following questions: What is nature writing? What is a scene? Where can I find ideas? Organizers can choose to add in a nature walk, a book-making activity to create nature journals, or simple writing exercises in an indoor setting.
Nature Journaling: Surrender to Nature’s Time
In this two-hour workshop, participants will reflect on their own experiences with the natural world. As a group, we’ll spend time discussing the ways that nature surprises us, and we’ll spend solo time in creative response, writing or drawing in nature journals. Organizers can choose to add in a nature walk, a book-making activity to create nature journals, or simple writing exercises in an indoor setting.
For hundreds of years, people have collected what they find meaningful and inspiring. Lines from poems, words of inspiration from a conversation with a friend, flower petals or colorful fall leaves that bring joy and instill positive memories–discover the creative and therapeutic potential of collecting and curating on paper. Commonplace books are intended to be your personal book of treasured ideas and wisdom. This workshop can be expanded to include a book-making activity to create a housing for participants’ collections.
Workshops can be tailored for your group of at least 8 individuals. My rates vary depending on the nature of the project. Please use the contact form to get in touch with me, and we’ll schedule a time to talk and discuss your needs.
